IVF Scanning

Specialist ultrasound scans for IVF monitoring.

Having your IVF monitoring scans close to home can make a long process a little easier.

IVF involves a lot of scans, often at short notice and over several weeks. If your fertility clinic is a long way from Limerick, travelling for every one can be exhausting. We can carry out your monitoring scans here, in a calm and supportive setting, and send the results straight to your fertility team, so your treatment stays on track.

Questions we hear every day

“What scans are part of IVF?”
Most cycles include a baseline scan before treatment, several follicle monitoring scans during stimulation to see how your follicles are responding, a lining check, and, in frozen embryo cycles, scans to prepare the lining. After a positive pregnancy test there’s an early pregnancy scan to check all is well.

“Can I have my IVF scans here if my treatment is elsewhere?”
In many cases, yes, depending on your fertility clinic’s agreement. Please check with your clinic first, and we’ll work with them to make sure scans are measured and reported in the way they need.

“How quickly can I be seen?”
IVF timing can be tight. Tell us as soon as your cycle starts, or when your clinic gives you your schedule, and we’ll do our best to fit you in on the days you need.

“What will you do on the day?”
We measure the follicles in each ovary, check the womb lining and note anything else of relevance. You’ll get a clear explanation, and we’ll send the report to your clinic the same day, if that’s what you need.

“Will it hurt?”
It shouldn’t. Most women feel mild pressure, though your ovaries can feel more tender during stimulation, and we’ll go gently. You can ask us to pause at any time.

“What if I feel unwell during treatment?”
Mild bloating and tenderness are common. Severe bloating, pain, rapid weight gain, nausea or vomiting, or shortness of breath can be signs of ovarian hyperstimulation (OHSS), and you should contact your fertility clinic urgently.

“Can you do the scan after a positive test?”
Yes. An early pregnancy scan, usually from about six to seven weeks, can show a heartbeat, and it’s a moment we love sharing with you.

“Is it emotional?”
Very often, and that’s completely normal. Our team will be kind and unhurried, whatever the result.
